My Trip To The Netherlands
I went on an unforgettable trip last summer. I went on a trip to the Netherlands with my mom, sister, and grandma. Months before we left, my mom won two tickets to the Netherlands. She won the tickets by winning an "orange" contest. My mom had to take a picture with a lot of oranges. She took a picture of orange Crocs and the European Cup soccer game on the television with Holland versus another team from Europe. She really wanted to go. At the last minute, she won!! Because my mom is Dutch and most of her family lives there, she had another opportunity to visit them. The worst part about leaving to the Netherlands: we had to leave my dad for three weeks! (My dad is my "buddy.") We packed our bags and suitcases and my dad drove us to the San Francisco Airport.
I cried when I left my dad, and he hugged me very hard. Then we boarded the plane, and there was a silky blue blanket and a fluffy white pillow in the seats. After about half an hour, the plane took flight. It took about eleven hours to get to Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. My eyes were half closed and I could barely walk. I fell back into the plane seat. "Come on Abby. We have to go," said Ally, my sister. I slumped and walked slowly. My body was tired. When my cousin Gerhard (gare-art) picked us up in the airport, we got into his car and drove to his house (the place where we're staying). I noticed that road signs indicating the city or area were blue. In America, they're green. I fell asleep when we were in the car. I finally woke up and we were at Gerhard's house. I saw a large black dog with his ears perked up. "That's Max," Gerhard told Ally and me. I went upstairs into our guest room, and rested.
The next day, early in the morning, Max, Ally and I were running down the sidewalk together. It seemed like good excerise for Max, and we loved going down by the creek. The creek had plants and not very deep water. We came back quickly. We took a drive and we got on a ferry that cost 40 cents per person. It went to the other side of the river slowly. We waited on the other side of the river until the ferry returned. We got on again and returned to our starting place. We just did it for fun.
The next morning I was watching "Spongebob Squarepants" in German and I didn't understand any of it, but I recognized the episode since I'd seen it at home. It was weird watching the show in German. It's a different language, so of course it's different, and at some parts I got frustrated because I couldn't understand it! Then, my sister and I ate cereal for breakfast. Later for a snack I had some Cat Chips my cousin gave me. The chips were shaped like cats which I loved.
In Nieuw-Vennep, Aad (my cousin), my mom, my sister and I were waiting at the train station to go to Amsterdam. The city was very busy. There were many tall buildings. We walked down the streets and looking at sights I had never seen before. Down in a river, a guy in a little boat used a fishing rod and was trying to collect money! It was pretty funny. We went to McDonalds and it had four floors! A little pigeon was in the restaurant. We ate and went on a boat ride. I would have enjoyed the boat ride if the sun was not beating down on me for an hour. Otherwise it was really cool. We saw a floating Chinese Restaurant in the water called Sea Palace. Also, we saw a house with a thousand windows! It was very amazing. Aad left on a train and my mom, my sister, and I went on another train with Jack in the Box for breakfast.
The next day, we went on a trip to the monkey park with my mom's friend, Fenny. We saw all kinds of monkeys there. The spider monkeys are out in the open and so are other smaller ones like lemurs, and bigger monkeys were caged.
Soon it came. We had to leave. Gerhard drove my mom, my grandma, my sister and me to the airport. My mom cried as she hugged them goodbye. I was sad too, but I was happy to see my dad. After a long flight, we reached the San Francisco airport. We walked into A big room with crowds of people and I found my dad and hugged him. He drove us back home after we checked out and I saw my cat. I petted her because I missed her so much.
I will never forget this trip. It's a memory that will never leave me. The Netherlands is a place I want to go again-and next year, my mom said, might be the year when I go back.
